ROMA JAZZ’S COOL is the most important intensive advanced level jazz workshop, managed by Saint Louis College of Music in collaboration with Casa del Jazz in Rome. The workshop springs from thirty years of experience accrued by Saint Louis in the field of jazz didactis. The workshop is designed for advanced or medium-advanced jazz players.The 2009 edition will be a real full immersion, featuring international jazz players: the students will have the chance of deepening the knowledge and skills relative to their own instruments for a whole week, in small classes made up of 5/6 people each, under the guidance of Phil Markowitz – piano, Peter Bernstein – guitar, Mark Turrner – sax, Larry Grenadier – bass, nancy King – voice, Jeff Ballard – drums. These same musicians will be holding ensemble music classes, too – trio to quintet.

PARTICIPANTS AND ENROLMENT

The participation is open to music students of all nationalities. All those
willing to apply will have to fill in the application form and send it by
mail to “Saint Louis Music Center srl – Via Cimarra 19/B, 00184, Roma” or by
e-mail to management@slmc.it, or using the on-line application form. Required
documents (to be send by mail/e-mail, attached to the application form):
- 2 pictures
- the receipt of the bank/post wire transfer
- a certificate released by the Conservatory or by the officially
recognized private school, testifying the obtained diploma of the last
- attended study year, or a declaration written by the own teacher
testifying the study years done with him/her and the relative
- programme. In order to be admitted in the first level course it is
necessary an education of at least 2-3 years.
- A cd/dvd containing 3 songs played (or sung) by the applying student.
As a stylistic selection we strongly recommend: 1 major/minor blues, 1
rhythm change (anatole), 1 ballad.
The students enrolling in the month of August will have the chance of
sending the recorded tracks in MP3 form to the e-mail address:

Terms and Conditions:
The registration can be done until there are places left. The end of the
registrations will be communicated on the website.
The courses attendance is subordinated to the signature in acceptance of the
present rules.
The sent material cannot be given back.
The selection based on the received application requests will be carried out
upon final, unquestionable decision of the Artistic Director.

Qualification:
The acceptance/rejection of the application query will be communicated by
post, phone or e-mail.
In case of rejection the fee will be paid back by bank wire transfer.

Withdrawal:
Students wishing to withdraw from the course will have to send a written
request within June 5th. Withdrawing after this deadline will imply the
non-refundability of the paid fee, apart from illness or serious reasons. In
such cases the student should apply for the refund in written form,
addressed to the ITDC Association and attaching the necessary documentation
to the request.

Audition:
The audition for the accepted students meant to the subdivision in the three
course levels will be hold on August 30th and will be based on the
following tests:
- Reading test with the instrument
- Improvisation test, accompanied by rhythmic session. The student will
have to play 2/3 songs, 1 chosen by the student, the others by - the
judging commission. The auditions are usually held on the basis of a blues,
an anatole and a ballad.
- The judging commission will be formed by the teacher of the instrument
course relative to the examined student plus one/two teachers - of other
instruments. The decision of the judging commissioned is final and
unquestionable. The audition will be hold indoor, in the
- presence of the enrolled students only.
- During the course the artistic director will have the right of moving the
students from one level and/or ensemble to another. In case of
- behavioural problems the artistic director will reserve the right of
taking disciplinary reprimands and/or expelling the student from the
- course.

Others:
- In order to preserve the quality and regularity of the lessons, the
students late to the classes will not be let in after 10 minutes from
- the lessons start.
- The students who will be attending all the lessons, or at least 70% of
them, will be awarded with a frequency diploma.
