We have two physiotherapists in our orchestra and they have initiated a warm up routine which we try to do before each rehearsal. I thought I would share it with the group.
1 a and b are shoulder rolls - roll shoulders forward then up and back bringing shoulder blades together.
2 keeping eyes level rotate head to the left and hold then repeat on right side.
3 bring ear down towards shoulder on left then right
4 place hands on hips and bend backwards looking at ceiling and repeat.
5 keep hands on hips and rotate as far to left as possible hold then do the same the other way
6 bring hands together as if praying push down.
7 Make a stop sign grab hand at base of fingers and pull back you can also pull arm across chest repeat for other arm
8 as above but pull hand down
9 hands behind head tilt one way then the other
10 bend to touch toes or as close as you can get
Repeat exercises 5 times.
